Pictures From the Louisville Chess Club

The Louisville Chess Club meets every Tuesday at La Bamba restaurant (1237 Bardstown Road, Louisville KY 40204) from 6 pm - whenever (usually 11pm or 12am). Here are three pictures from the most recent meeting. Especially noteworthy was the attendance of Hank Rothgerber, right, a past state champion who came out of hiding and played a few games with the ever crafty Mike Thomas.

Ryan Velez, above left, recently tied for 2nd place in the KY Closed. He is pictured here with Luke Calhoun, an expert from Arizona who recently moved to Louisville to start a test-prep business.

Miami Fugatte, left, and Dave Morrison, right, calculate lines in position fraught with tactical pitfalls.

  1. I think that Dave is winning.

  2. Nice promotion of the Tuesday night Louisville Chess Club. What kind of time controls do the players typically play?

  3. It is a wide range. I see allot of G 5, 10, 15, and 30. I would be happy to play you in a slower game. The blitz has been nice since we are still growing rapidly and everyone gets a chance to move around, play different players, and socialize a bit. We still need to decide on a default time control for ladder games. Of course if the players agree to another time control then that would be up to them.

  4. I plan on making it down there before too long. It looks like fun.

I like to eat at Mexican restaurants, so I'll make sure to eat there and help their business, too.
